This Academic Head of a Woman appears on the reverse side of the drawing depicting Bazille in a donkey head. This drawing is in the same vein as the Study of a Woman's Head in Profile on a Chair and most certainly depicts the same model. Here, the face is looking down but what changes most of all are the broad pencil strokes that give the drawing a kind of framing. The technique is the same as in the drawing cited above, with Bazille using a fairly broad, thick line, here with some modeling mostly distributed on the right side of the face.
