Bazille often expresses himself through scenes of everyday life. La Brodeuse is one of them. We find the same subject in the drawing Young Woman Sewing. The theme is identical with notable variations, however, in the dimensions of the drawings [ours in height], in some of the forms of the graphic design, notably the dress.
The drawing was made on a pink paper, probably a front page of a book. There is no doubt about the period it was done.
There are few pencil signatures on Bazille's drawings. It is therefore difficult to compare them. Nevertheless, we can note the diversity of his signatures on his paintings.
Like the Self-Portrait, which bears the number 29731 on the front, our drawing bears the number 26421 on the back. At this date, we do not know its significance.
