These Panama hats are to be dissociated from the hats worn by the characters in the drawing Self-Portraits by M. des Hours in The Family Gathering [character next to Bazille on far left] and by Manet in the The Studio on the rue La Condamine [Character directly facing Bazille]. There is every reason to believe that these hats were worn on less formal occasions.
