Same subject as the drawing Study of Women Cutting Flowers. On both drawings, the women are indeed identical but the drawing is more finished here. Note the frame, which suggests a project for a painting. This is also what Sarraute thought when he drew up a list of paintings planned by Bazille and included a painting that has now been lost: Jardinière, of which he gives the following description: "La Jardinière at the entrance to an alley, holding a bouquet in her right hand and scissors in her left". Above the bouquet, butterflies are flying.
